Conditions
What are the causes of spider and varicose veins?
Spider veins and varicose veins occur when blood pools in the veins near the skin’s surface. Chronic venous insufficiency is usually the root cause of spider and varicose veins. Venous insufficiency is a medical condition wherein the collapse of vein valves leads to backward blood circulation and the accumulation of blood in the leg veins, leading to vascular dilation and the eventual formation of spider and varicose veins.
What are the symptoms of spider and varicose veins?
Some patients don’t experience any symptoms with spider and varicose veins. But if you have underlying vein disease, you may experience leg heaviness, leg pain, frequent leg cramps, throbbing leg veins, restless leg syndrome, and leg swelling.
What are the differences between spider and varicose veins?
Spider veins are small red, purple, or bluish blood vessels that appear underneath the skin’s surface. They look like dense masses of spider webs under your skin. Varicose veins are larger blood vessels that protrude from the skin’s surface and look like a mass of twisted, tangled, and knotted ropes.
How do I know if I suffer from Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI)?
Chronic venous insufficiency is a medical condition caused by the collapse of vein valves. When your vein valves malfunction, gravity forces blood to flow backward and accumulate in the leg veins. The continued accumulation of blood in leg veins may lead to spider and varicose veins. Some of the most prominent signs and symptoms of venous insufficiency include leg heaviness, leg pain, leg swelling, throbbing leg veins, frequent leg cramps, and restless leg syndrome, especially at the end of the day or after long periods of sitting or standing still.
What are the symptoms of Chronic Venous Insufficiency?
Symptoms of venous insufficiency include:
· Swelling of the legs or ankles (edema)
· Pain that gets worse when you stand and gets better when you raise your legs
· Leg cramps
· Aching, throbbing, or a feeling of heaviness in your legs
· Itchy legs
· Weak legs
· Thickening of the skin on your legs or ankles
· Skin that is changing color, especially around the ankles
· Leg ulcers
· Varicose veins
· A feeling of tightness in your calve
Treatments
What treatment could be better for my condition?
If you have chronic venous insufficiency, you should opt for minimally invasive procedures that address the root cause of your vein problems. Radiofrequency ablation, endovenous laser ablation, and VenaSeal are some of the best minimally invasive vein treatments. During these procedures, the vein doctor uses thermal energy, laser energy, or medical adhesives to seal or close the diseased vein, which reroutes the accumulated blood into healthier leg veins.
Any of the treatments I will get are painful?
Minimally invasive vein treatments cause little to no pain and discomfort. We administer a local anesthetic before your treatment to ensure optimal comfort. You might feel a little pressure on your legs, but there’s no pain. During sclerotherapy, you might feel a mild cramping sensation when the sclerosant medicine enters your veins, but most say the sensation is tolerable.
How long is the effectiveness of my procedure?
Minimally invasive vein treatments have a nearly perfect success rate. However, the time it takes for the spider and varicose veins to dissipate will depend on your chosen treatment, the root cause of your vein problems, the location and size of the spider and varicose veins, and other factors.
How long is the downtime after I get my procedure?
Minimally invasive vein treatments don’t involve any downtime. You must avoid heavy lifting, strenuous workouts, and saunas for a few days after the treatment, but you can resume most of your daily activities and work immediately after your treatment. You should also start walking after the vein treatment without delay.
Could I pay in cash if I prefer it?
Yes, we accept payments in cash if that’s your preference.
When will I start seeing results?
After the vein treatment, your body will gradually reabsorb and metabolize the targeted spider and varicose veins. This process can take several weeks or months, depending on the chosen treatment plan and the size of the veins. Spider veins usually fade away within three weeks, and varicose veins may fade over a few months.
Do I need to come back to the vein center after I get my procedure?
You may have to return to the office for follow-up appointments. And some vein treatments may necessitate multiple sessions, especially if you have a strong density of spider and varicose veins. Your vein doctor will determine if you need to return for additional sessions after thoroughly evaluating your condition.
What kind of treatments do you have?
Our medical centers for vein treatment provide minimally invasive spider and varicose vein treatments. Our vein treatments are in-office, outpatient procedures that conclude within 30 to 60 minutes, following which you can resume your daily activities.
Is laser a good option for me?
Your vein doctor may perform endovenous laser treatment if you have underlying chronic venous insufficiency. Endovenous laser ablation has a nearly perfect success rate, but we can only determine if it’s the right treatment for you after a thorough evaluation and diagnosis.
Do you stirp veins?
This is an outdated procedure, with greater risks than other treatments on the market. The procedures we do in office are so minimally invasive and easy that most of our patients do them on their lunch breaks and go straight back to work! That being said, we haven’t assessed your case personally yet so without seeing you, it’s tough to know what the best route of treatment is for you. The best thing to do is come in for a consult with one of our doctors and we can take things from there.
Insurance
Will my insurance pay for my whole treatment?
It will depend on what treatments the doctor chooses for you and also it’s based on whether or not the doctor considers your case as a medical case. For instance, in some patients a vein case can be classified as medical if you have discomfort with your vein problems. The doctor can tell you more during your consultation with them.
Do I need to bring my insurance card to my first appointment?
You will be asked for your insurance details even before your first appointment. But we encourage you to also bring your insurance card to your first appointment.
What could I do if I don’t have insurance?
If you don’t have insurance, you may have to pay for your vein treatment out-of-pocket. But we encourage you to contact us and explore your options. We might be able to explore third-party financing options or payment plans that can reduce your financial burden. Our team is committed to helping you access vein care.
How could I understand my insurance plan if I want a procedure done?
We provide free insurance verification to all patients. If you want to understand your insurance implications and coverage, we encourage you to request free insurance verification before your initial appointment. Our team will review the terms and conditions of your insurance plan, work out the terms of insurance coverage, and provide a complete breakdown of your vein treatment cost before your procedure.
How do I know if I am covered by my insurance to get a procedure?
Medical insurance plans usually cover vein treatments deemed to be medically necessary. If you’re concerned about insurance coverage, please send your insurance details to our team. We will verify the terms and conditions of your insurance plan on your behalf.
What could I do if I lost my insurance card before my visit?
If you’ve already scheduled an appointment, please contact our team and inform us that you’ve lost your insurance card. Our team will let you know what you can do next.
Doctors
What doctor could be better for my condition?
All of our doctors are board certified and equally qualified. What I’ve seen is patients typically only request doctors based on their location. They all use the same techniques and the same technology to treat vein disease.
What academic credentials and certifications do the Vein Treatment Clinic doctors have?
We individually select doctors with specialized training in subjects related to vein care and phlebology, such as vascular imaging and minimally invasive vein treatments. Our vein doctors are graduates from Ivy League universities and undergo advanced residency programs and fellowships in relevant subjects. Furthermore, our vein doctors also undergo a difficult board certification process with the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine to establish themselves as the country’s leading experts in vein care.
Could I choose which doctor I want for my appointment?
All of our vein doctors are equally skilled, trained, and board-certified. They also collaborate to curate the ideal treatment plan for their patients. As such, you can expect the same level of expertise, care, and attention from all of our vein doctors. We encourage you to visit your nearest medical center for vein treatment instead of traveling long distances to see a particular vein doctor.
