Everyone wants to look and feel their best. Yet, millions of Americans suffer from the pain, itching, bruising, and skin ulcerations brought on by the chronic and recurrent condition of varicose and spider veins. Apart from the discomfort and health risks associated with varicose and spider veins, they detract from your appearance. For information purposes, we have provided a brief description of the most common venous disorders, along with the appropriate treatment options for each.

These are veins that are larger than spiders but smaller than varicose veins. They usually have a blue color. These are a cosmetic problem and are best treated with injection sclerotherapy and the use of compression hose. See non-surgical procedures

Spider veins are very small veins caused by a dilation of the small venules under the skin. They typically appear in women when the blood level of estrogen and progesterone is abnormal. They are a cosmetic problem and are treated with either injection sclerotherapy or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or Intense Pulsed Laser (IPL).

Varicose veins are large, bulging veins often associated with tired, painful or achy legs. Sometimes varicose veins are deeper under the skin surface and not visible, however, the symptoms tend to be the same. Varicose veins are caused by faulty valves in the veins, which allows some blood circulation to fall backward instead of on course to the heart. These veins are best treated with a surgical procedure.
